Internship and co-op opportunities exist within Great American's Corporate Headquarters located in downtown Cincinnati and various locations. Students with an interest in the field of business, finance, risk management and insurance and computer science, or information systems are encouraged to apply. Requirements include current enrollment in an accredited college or university with a major in such areas as business administration, finance, economics, statistics, communications, or risk management and insurance with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The Underwriter Trainee Program is responsible for developing the fundamental skills required of an insurance underwriter. Underwriter Trainees will learn to review and evaluate risks and exposures for various types of businesses, to determine appropriate classification and pricing methodologies. They will work closely with experienced underwriters and adjusters to learn customer service skills and standards. The program includes a combination of activities and rotational assignments, aimed at giving the trainee a full understanding of the underwriting department and how the department interacts with other areas of the organization.
The Business Developer Trainee Program is focused on developing the fundamental skills required of an underwriter in addition to marketing products and services through a network of agents or a specific geographic territory. Business Developers will learn to review and evaluate risks and exposures, determine appropriate classification and pricing methodologies, and develop marketing skills. They will work closely with experienced business developers, underwriters and adjusters to learn marketing, customer service skills and standards.
The Claims Trainee Program is designed to develop the fundamental skills required of a claim professional. Claims trainees learn to develop the skills and perform the necessary activities for claims investigation, evaluation and resolution. The Claims Trainee program includes a combination of activities aimed at giving the trainee a full understanding of the claims department and how the department interacts with other areas of the organization.
Activities and rotational assignments for Trainee positions may include:
Job shadowing Participating in assignments on various topics including insurance products such as commercial automobile, general liability, property, worker's compensation as well as general topics such as business ethics, legal system, negotiation and human relations. Performing functions related to underwriting, business development, and/or claims processes and technology Participating in Great American's education and training curriculum
Qualified candidates should have:
Bachelors Degree 3.0 Minimum GPA Proven leadership skills through extracurricular activities, internships/co-ops, or work experience Superior verbal/written communication and analytical skills
Great American's Management Development Program is geared toward top-level graduates who have the desire to hone their leadership, communication and business-related skills. Customized rotations may include up to three 12-18 month assignments within various business units. Assignments will depend on the unit's business needs and those of the candidate, including his or her particular career interests.
Employees in this program are expected to make significant contributions during their on-the-job training and participate in high-level projects in preparation for future leadership responsibilities.
